About our tribal jewellery

I like to search for interesting and authentic pieces of costume jewellery, from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Central Asia and Africa. This jewellery has been worn and enjoyed, often for decades. So you might expect some pieces to show wear and tear, including missing stones, chips and dents.

On the subject of silver …

The jewellery I sell has not been assessed against UK Hallmarking Standards. Some may exceed the standard. Some items I come across have a 925 stamp inside them. Other pieces are made from composite alloys and have glass stones. It is usual in these parts of the world to use melted down coin metal. Silver content can vary from 30 -70 %.
So I avoid describing pieces as being 'silver'. The photographs describe the colours.

On the subject of stones …

If I can identify a stone (e.g., lapis lazuli, carnelian) then I will describe it as such.
If the piece looks good and gives pleasure from the art, the craft and appearance, then it has its own value. Unless I am sure, I will not describe a piece as being collectable or antique.
